Laparoscopic Hernia Procedures Inguinal and ventral hernia repairs are performed under general anesthesia using several small abdominal incisions. Surgeons use a camera and specialized instruments to place mesh over the hernia site, securing it internally. The entire procedure typically takes 30–60 minutes. Patients generally return to normal diets and daily activities quickly, with many returning to sedentary work within two weeks. For physically demanding jobs, 4–6 weeks may be needed.
